What our school does to support our pupils with regard to … |
The Galilei-Gymnasium undertakes many activities in the field of vocational and tuitional orientation and has hence gathered many experiences of which the project partners can profit. The following aims are thereby very important to us: Connection of the school and the world of employment, strengthening of the economic basic knowledge, practice- and application-orientation as well as individual promotion with regard to tuitional and vocational orientation.
We try to reach these aims by means of cooperation with extra-school partners, experts in various lessons, field trips to enterprises and internships, an assessment of competences and their individual promotion. During one’s school career we address questions regarding the world of work in various subjects. Accordingly, various teaching units and a close cooperation with the agency for employment, enterprises and universities prepare the process for a long-laid out tuitional and vocational orientation.

KAoA
We conduct individual potential analyses for students of Year 8 as part of the initiative “KAoA” (“Kein Abschluss ohne Anschluss” = no graduation without connection) of the state North Rhine-Westphalia, organize field trips to occupational areas and visits to the job information center. Students of the upper classes do internships at various enterprises for two weeks, visit enterprises, universities and take part in a career counselling as well as aptitude tests at the agency for employment Hamm. Furthermore, we offer projects such as experimental games in the field of banking or setting up businesses (e.g. “Youth founds” of the institute of German economy or “Students in executive positions”).
Teaching units for applications and job interviews are an integral part of the curriculum of the subjects German and English in Year 8 and 9.
A career consultant regularly comes to our school and counsels our students of the upper classes in terms of questions regarding vocational and tuitional orientation.
Various foreign language teachers of the subjects English, French and Italian are going to collaborate with our project-workgroup in order to ensure a successful communication. Furthermore, teachers with the subjects Social Sciences, History and Politics are going to collaborate with the project-workgroup because they are able to thematically include the project into their lessons. Lastly, teachers of the department for Mathematics are responsible for the planning and the budget.
